BRIEF HISTORY OF HAYSVILLE FALL FESTIVAL
This year will the the 24rd annual Haysville Fall Festival. The first Haysville Fall Festival was held in October 1985. The festival was started by a group of volunteers who wanted an event in the park during the fall months. The first Fall Festival Committee was made up of people from the Lions Club, Optimist Club, ABWA, Friends of the Library, the Pride Committee, City Councilman, Chamber of Commerce and people from the general public.
The goal of the festival is to bring the community closer together at an event with a family atmosphere. The festival has grown each year. We encourage the food vendors to keep their prices at a level to insure that parents can bring their children and be able to feed them. This is the same with all kid's games.
The festival is kicked off by a great parade. We also have a car show, antique and garden tractor pulls, craft booths, commercial booths, a carnival, a Friday night Bingo session for the adults, kid games, and other stage entertainment. The festival also tries to book big name entertainers for a special Saturday night show. Starting in 1999, we also added a Friday night concert. The Friday night concert has been a great success so we will do it again in 2007.
In the area where the kid games are held, the local police have their Dare booth where they give away items that have been donated by various business.
We have a drawing for prizes for the adults. We have a major prizes as well as many lesser items. We are always looking for help in this area. All donors are recognized at the various events no matter how small their contribution. Getting people involved at any level is important.
The Haysville Fall Festival is a nonprofit organization. The festival funding comes from the business community in the form of ads, sponsorships and donations. Monies are also raised by the various events at the Festival. The festival does not receive any funding from the City or any other government body, however, the festival would not be possible without the help we receive from the city employees and support given by the City's Governing body. The Haysville Fall Festival committee is made up of volunteers from the general public as well as the Lions Club, the ABWA, Optimist Club, Friends of the Library, The Pride Committee, Historical Society, City Government, the Senior Center, and the Street Rod Association. We can always use more help!
